Not Your Typical ScantilyClad Virgin Sacrifice eBook H Jonas Rhynedahll
I wanted a low-cost collection of fantasy/sci-fi short stories as amusing reading material for my times on the treadmill. This turned out to be that, for certain, but also very well-crafted, mentally engaging/stimulating, unique, and just plain fun, with delightful unexpected twists and a playful sense of humor. Each story is self-contained and very different from the others, displaying versatility on the part of the author and providing a great "variety sampler" of short reads. Imagery and concepts from it are sticking with me. And all of this without wandering into anything terribly crude or sexual, curse-filled, or derogatory, proving that it really is possible to write solid, intelligent, well-written, memorable, enjoyable stories without any of that despite what tends to be on shelves everywhere.Product details

Not Your Typical ScantilyClad Virgin Sacrifice eBook H Jonas Rhynedahll Reviews
An enjoyable collection of short stories ranging from humorous to more serious, and various shades in-between. Nice if you want to spend a few minutes reading a story or two, and short enough that if you end up going through the whole thing you won't have spent too much time.
I have only recently discovered H. Jonas Rhynedahll. Frist through his A Key to Magic Epic Fantasy series, then reading Potatoes, Come Forth! and finally this little number. I've enjoyed all of these books greatly. I'm definitely now a fan. This collection of short stories is something i would imagine is written while under the influence of many shots of tequila. It is entertaining and light and enjoyable. If you want to pass your time with a few chuckles and the occasional guffaw while not having to worry about deep and convoluted plots you will enjoy this.
I bought this book on the promise of hilarity, what I got was lackluster at best.
I made it through two short stories before I banished it to the cloud to be forgotten, I did consider returning it on principle alone, but considering I bought it for a dollar I thought it would be churlish.
The biggest issue wasn't the writing, it flowed beautifully and was easy to read, nor the characters, which were well developed, it was the humor. The jokes fell flat and the wit was non-existent, after a few pages the jokes became predictable and followed the same vein.
Perhaps this style of humor just isn't for me? I recommend trying a sample of this novel for free before spending any money, it definitely isn't for everyone.
An uneven collection of stories. The first was very good. The second world class funny. The rest just ok.
I didn't know what to expect. I knew from the reviews that it was supposed to be very funny and enjoyable. And, for the most part, it was. But, overall, I just didn't like it.
I don't know if it was the author's style, his sense of humor, or something else. It just didn't resonate with me. It could also be that after the second story my expectations were so high that the rest of the book was a disappointment.
I enjoyed the series of short stories, they were well written, complete, and entertaining. The author was imaginative and created some interesting pieces that made one think. That being said, the title is a bit misleading. The stories are not all themed, and while two of them appear to be on topic to some extent, the rest are not. So, yes, I actually deducted a star for the title. I would recommend this as light reading to anyone who enjoys SF/Fantasy, but not to anyone who is interested in a virgin sacrifice.
almost a tribute to "golden age" of sf writing. This was wonderful, even if not what's currently in vogue. If you appreciate the sense of wonder and simple cleverness of early SF you'll love this. I did. The clever twists and innocent wonder of early Bradbury and so on? Yeah, that kind of thing (ok, not *as* good, but still very decent).
What's Hot
The title says it all. This collection of short stories should be packaged as a health hazard, because it is hot. Brace yourself to be amused. The juxtaposition of science-fiction and fantasy twists with the ludicrous vagaries of modern life, makes these tales fresh and insightful. The writing is always crisp and competent, while offering readers the gift of some very different perspectives.
What's Not
There are plenty of smiles to be had, but not many out-loud laughs. The series may not be as hilarious as the reader hopes.
Summary
Zombies line up. Delightfully zany and full of brains, this book is a no-brainer at the price. Not always as funny as a fart in the bath, these stories offer more subtle satisfaction. WARNING be prepared to sweat. The writing is not dumbed-down and will make you work. Every yarn takes some unravelling and the reader needs to pounce on the story as it appears. There are plenty of breadcrumbs, but mental gymnastics are required to integrate a complete picture of the worlds described. Whether this is a 'Hot' or a 'Not' depends on each reader, but if you're happy to go with the flow, enjoy.
